- today last day of school for kindergarten - January 8th students back at school This week in Kindergarten students made beautiful winter art. First students started with white paint, then gradually added blue paint creating new tones and shades for a cool background.
Next students cut out a small, medium, and large triangle to make evergreen trees. Last students used q-tips and white paint to make tiny snowflakes as a foreground. Afternoon Kindergarten will be having "Sleepy Santa Day" on Thursday December 20th. Students can wear their pajamas to school. Thursday will also be our before break party with fun festive crafts.
There is a lot involved in learning how to writing. For early childhood learners writing starts out as drawings and develops over time. Below are examples of early stages of emergent writing:

Kindergarten Winter concert Thursday evening. Pajama day on December 20th. Part of the Kindergarten math curriculum: “represent and describe numbers 2 to 10, concretely and pictorially” What exactly does the “concretely” part mean in this context? Generally, it is the student’s fluidity and flexibility with numbers and what numbers mean building upon an ability to perform mental mathematics. Here is just one example of what “concretely” could look like: Do they understand that 5 is not simply 5 but is 2 and 3? Do they understand that in order to represent a larger number they must represent smaller numbers? For example: Part of our everyday learning in Kindergarten is secret messages. The message is read out loud with the missing sounds, while students are asked to try filling in the missing letters. How this related to our kindergarten curriculum: - Students are making connections between the missing letters with the missing sounds in the words. - Students practice hearing and identifies dominant sounds in spoken words - Students associates missing sounds with the missing consonants that appear at the beginning of words |
