Our four kindergarten classes are performing in our Hawkwood Kindergarten Christmas Concert!
When: Thursday, December 13th Time: 6:15pm- about 6:50pm Location: Hawkwood gym Info: Please drop your child off in the Learning Commons with his/her teacher at 6:15pm. Parents will then seat themselves in the gym and wait for a 6:30 start. The concert will be short and sweet, about 20 minutes or so. Please note that there will only be chairs in half of the gym and standing room only at the back. We apologize for this, however our gym is in use until just minutes before the concert start. Indoor school shoes will not be available as the classroom will be closed. We look forward to seeing students and families that night!

Ms. Drummond's class will be going on a very quick (10 minute) walk along the sidewalk beside the school on Monday, December 3rd. We will be looking at the street signs, such as "pedestrian crossing" and "no parking". We will not be crossing the street or going far from the school. Students will be thinking of safety and what the signs mean. Even if the weather is snowy or cold, we will head out and we will just be a few minutes.
Please book a time to meet with your child's teacher during our November conference times. During this 20 minute time, we will go through the results of the "Early Years Evaluation" for your child. This is not a report card, but does provide some insight into the skills and knowledge your child has started kindergarten with. Your child does not need to be at this conference, although they are welcome to attend. We will have "student-led conferences" later in the year where your child will be able to show off their learning to you!
If you are unable to meet with your child's teacher during the scheduled conference times, please contact the school to set up an alternate time. We would love to meet with each and every one of you! We look forward to seeing you! This month, kindergarten students will be learning about how to be safe in our school, our homes and within our community. This learning will be tied to our "Health" curriculum. Some specific topics we will discuss are understanding safe/unsafe items such as cleaners, medicines, glass, hot or sharp kitchen items. We will also look at safety symbols and signs.
Some community helpers can help us to be safe. We had a visit from Paramedics Jessica and Ksenia, who showed us the equipment they use to help people. We even got to go through the ambulance and take a ride on the stretcher! We had an amazing day on Halloween. A huge "Shout-Out" to the parent volunteers who came in to the classroom to help out, and to the parents who sent yummy snacks for the kids to share. We loved our Halloween classroom centers where we got to paint, make bookmarks, pound nails into pumpkins (so fun), use our senses of smell, touch and sight to explore an opened pumpkin, play bingo and use orange playdough. We saw a short movie on the SmartBoard while we had a picnic in the Learning Commons, then we went on a parade to our buddy classrooms. A good time was had!
